Xander, Emilie and Baby #3

Our last visit had to have been conducted in record speed! After finally getting to see Dr. Lee an hour after our appointment time (she was called up for an emergency c-section), things moved quickly. I put on 2lbs since last month, which was right on target. We also found out that all of my blood tests came out with happy results--I'm not a cystic fibrosis carrier and still no STDs (big surprise). The odd result was that my blood type was O+ this time and A+ last time (I didn't know my blood type before getting prego with Xander). Hmmm. They're checking on that one.

Then came the question and answer portion. She started by double checking on my work arrangement. My department recently moved into a new lab and construction is still underway, including painting. I called in last week to find out about the headache the fumes were giving me. She suggested getting away from the area until after the painting was done, although it shouldn't pose any problems for Baby. I let her know that I was moved out of the area until they finished. Satisfied with my response, it was my turn. So I asked about the knifing pain I've been having on my right side from hip to groin. She figured it was just round ligament stretching but made sure to find out if the pain went away (it’s stabbing not constant) and how long it lasted (intermittent for about 1/2-1hr at a time). No concerns. I also asked about dental work because I need to get my wisdom teeth pulled (I’ll probably wait on that one) among other things. Again she wasn't too concerned about it except for extensive x-rays, saying to have my dentist call if she had any questions about which medicines to administer.

Then we got to hear what we'd been waiting for for at least the last 4 weeks--Baby's heartbeat! After a few seconds of searching (and my pulse increasing), she found Baby squirming all over (we heard TONS of static!). Much to Daddy's delight, Baby's heart rate was 142bpm so now we're really thinking we're having boy #2!! So that's not definite proof one way or the other but it's actually a little lower than Xander's was at this point. Now if we can only agree on a name! : )

Xander has been doing a TON of new stuff over the last few weeks again and is getting to be soooo big! Let’s see how many things I can remember while suffering from placenta brain! : ) At daycare he's been climbing the steps up to the sink and washing his own hands, which means we're probably going to have to get him some steps for his bathroom. He's also been playing with his buddy Ava a lot at daycare lately (she had been on vacation from school for a couple weeks). Evidently when she came back in, he had to walk up to her and touch her to make sure she was real! (Aawwww!) When we picked him up the other day, he was outside pushing her around on a walker/ride-on. Luckily for everyone involved, the two of them will be transitioning to the same toddler room together next week! (Our baby isn't a baby anymore! He's officially going to be a big boy!) He's also back to eating his veggies, but only at school. When his teacher told him that she was going to tell Mommy and Daddy about it, he told her "Uh uh!" over and over. Smart aleck!

He has also been going a mile a minute at home. His favorite new thing to do when we're sitting on the couch and he's playing on the floor is to crawl under our legs. He thinks that's so much fun. But that’s about all of the crawling he does these days. He’s strictly a walker now and loving every second of it! This has allowed him to run up to Daddy while they’re playing on the floor and tackle him. He thinks that's hilarious! He can also identify and name his eyes, no-nose, ears, and mouth (although he can’t say that one yet). We’re pretty sure nose is no-nose because he hears no no so much when he points, I mean sticks his finger up his nose. And as some of you may have been able to watch on the video clip (we’re working to get another clip captured and uploaded), he’s dancing now! WE think that’s hilarious!! Evidently when he figured out how to squat, the next logical thing to do was dance! That funny feat was soon followed by his latest face (which we’re also trying to capture)—his What-are-you-talking-about-Willis face. You’ve got to see it! Words can’t do it justice!! : )

And the new words have been coming left and right as well. Lately all foods are yummy, doggie is actually doggie now instead of diggie, birds are B’s (and so are airplanes), he now plays b-ball with Daddy instead of just ball, and he walks around saying happy happy happy (like he has to remind himself or us!).

He’s also starting to be a more adventurous eater. For awhile, he would eat nothing for lunch or dinner but mac n cheese and fruit. Thankfully, that period has passed! Now he’s eating our meals with us. His favorites so far are sour cream enchiladas, spaghetti (he won’t eat the canned kind), and as of this weekend, manicotti. Daddy also got him some Ritter’s when we stopped the last few times. He doesn’t seem to have a preference yet—he likes vanilla and chocolate equally!

I guess I should give my placenta brain some credit! I’m impressed! : )

Not much is going on in baby land these days. I've definitely settled in to the run to the bathroom several times per day mode paired with the rigid policy of eating everything in sight. It doesn't really make for very productive days! : ) (But I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world!) I've also had to get in the habit of unbuttoning my jeans that actually fit me right as a sit down for long periods. As you've probably seen already in the last belly shot, there's a definite baby bulge now. My belly is proving everything to be true that says you will show sooner the second time around. Either that or we're in for another BIG baby! OUCH!! : )
