For all of you out there with kids under 1yr old, we have good news! There is now a painless shot! Xander got his measels/chicken pox vaccine (called Proquad) yesterday and he didn't make a peep! No crying, no sad faces, NOTHING! This has to be the greatest innovation in well baby visits ever! : )

I'm behind again on updating, which is happening all too often these days! This time it was because Xander had a stomach bug on Friday night/Saturday morning, he and I went to the outlet mall with Grandma Cindy and Aunt Michelle while Chad, Grandpa Paul, and Uncle Chaddy installed a utility sink in the laundry room. Then Monday and Tuesday Chad and I were stricken with the same horrible bug. I lost 5.5lbs in 2days while Chad lost a visible amount! I guess gaining more than I should have recently isn't a problem anymore! : ( Hopefully we won't have any more illnesses like that to deal with for awhile and the home improvements will be wrapping up soon. Maybe we'll get back to normal soon!

IT'S A GIRL!!!! As you can tell, we've been thinking pink for the last few hours!
First I'll back up and start with the OB appt today. Dr. Lee had been called upstairs to the maternity ward for another c-section this morning, which obviously pushed back the start of our appt. I had started drinking multiple bottles of water before leaving the house this morning (I took the day off) and was beginning to feel the effects so I started the appt without her. : ) When I was finished, the nurse was ready to have me jump on the scale and head back to the exam room.
When Dr. Lee came in, she told me I'd put on 7lbs since my last appt 5wks ago. Oops! I guess the sweets cravings were more apparent than I thought! Since I'd only put on 2lbs in the first trimester, she said I was now on target for my weight gain goal. But she also cautioned me to slow down—only 1lb per week from here on out. I told her I’d been cravings sweets badly over the last few weeks so she recommended only having them in the morning so I’d have time to burn off the extra calories during the day. So no more after-dinner Dairy Queen trips. (Chad pointed out that they serve breakfast so I’d just have to head over before work! I love the way he thinks!) She also asked if I drank a lot of juice, which is what I normally have with dinner. Again, she suggested I move that earlier in the day as well.
The she asked if I was experiencing any swelling (no), pain (yes), or had any other questions or concerns (yes). Chad remembered that I’d been complaining that Baby wasn’t being nice lately and causing some pain on my right side. Since it wasn’t constant or consistent and went away, she figured it was nothing to worry about (and we weren’t). I’d also mentioned my…gulp…varicose vein that has bulged on the back of my right thigh. It’s pretty painful when I first get up in the morning and is kind of tender to the touch. She recommended support hose (shudder). Needless to say, when the family is complete, I’ll be consulting with the Indiana Vein Clinic to get it fixed!!
Then came the fun part of the monthly OB appt—the Doppler check for Baby’s heartbeat. She had a little trouble finding it the first time around so neither of us were surprised that she didn’t find it right off the bat today. But when seconds turned into minutes of searching, my pulse starting increasing! All she could find was my heartbeat. She figured it was nothing to be concerned about because her guess was that the placenta was on the front and blocking things but she pulled in the ultrasound machine just to check. Bingo! That was the problem! Baby was wiggling all over the place and we saw a strong little heart beating. Knowing where to aim, she checked again with the Doppler but still couldn’t find it. Satisfied that everything was okay, we headed off to radiology to find out how baby is growing and the BIG news!
Big brother just woke up so I'll finish this up later!Comments:Add a comment:

The second trimester changes are finally starting to set in. Cravings are shifting from potato chips and cheese n crackers to Blizzards and brownies (this chocolate-loving mommy is DEFINITELY not complaining about that change). Thankfully, I don't have to get up every night to go to the bathroom anymore, just most. I'm also able to stay up until around 10pm now, which is coming in handy since I'm a loser and watch So You Think You Can Dance from 9-10pm (like I'm doing right now).
Baby is making him/herself more known lately, too. There's been a lot more movement over the last week and Baby is getting a good kick in every once in awhile. So I've got a guess as to how s/he is laying--fists on my right side and legs on my left. And I'm pretty sure part of the time that I'm getting head butted on my right side between my belly button and hip. Only about a week to go until we find out if my predictions are correct!! And to find out whether we'll be a split household or if I'm going to be completely out numbered. : ) Let's hope this last week flies by!!Comments:Add a comment:

Our baby is officially a toddler now! It was obvious that it was starting when he learned the phrase no no. No is beyond a doubt now his favorite word. He tells the doggy no about as much as he tells us no! (Or the cars that drive by us or people putting the wrong items in their grocery carts or, well, you get the picture.) He has also become an expert fit thrower although he's torn between which type is his favorite. Screaming at the top of his lungs is definitely involved in both. He just doesn't seem to have decided whether he likes flinging himself off furniture/our arms or collapsing onto the floor best. And the last big step for him was transitioning into his new toddler room a few weeks ago. The plan was to have him and his buddy, Ava, gradually move into their new room over the course of a week. Neither of them needed more than a day! Their new teachers were sooooo impressed with how quickly and easily they adjusted. He absolutely loves it! He gets to spend most of the day outside playing (he'll even leave his horrible sun hat on!) and the rest of the time it seems that they're doing an art project of some sort. This means his nap schedule has changed a bit too. Now its run run run until he just collapses onto his cot for what normally turns out to be a 2-2.5hr nap!! Some days he doesn't even make it to the cot before he falls asleep at the lunch table! : )
Since his big transition, we're been going through a series of rough nights over the last two weeks. Xander seems to have caught a cold (big surprise) since being exposed to all the new germs. Most nights he wakes himself and us up with a horrible coughing fit. Since he hasn't been feverish at all, at least he hasn't had to be back in to visit his doc. (Maybe he'll actually make it to his new well baby appt without a sick trip! Cross your fingers!) What could be making this cold a little worse is that we've noticed he has gotten in at least 2 of his top molars. That could also be why dinner doesn't seem big enough to sustain a bird lately (he went through the same thing when his 4 front teeth on top came in). Either that or it's the famous toddler food strike we've been hearing so much about.
Despite the rough nights and theatrical fits, he has continued to wow us with his ever expanding vocabulary. He is definitely trying to mimic everything we say these days. In fact, tonight for dinner he had ravioli and I kept telling him that was what he waiting on in the microwave. So he said oli and after my (probably) way too showy congratulations on saying a new word, he started chanting it. He's so funny! Birds are no longer B's now; they're birdies, which sound an awful lot like dirty and doggie (his other favorite words). He also tells us beep beep when we're in his way while he's mowing for the 7th time every day (we think he picked that one up from daddy). I've also been beep beeping when we put his wagon in reverse to head out the door for his nightly ride. So the first thing he does when he gets in the wagon is start beep beeping! : ) Once we're cruising around the neighborhood, he points out trees to us and pretty(s) (aka flowers) and yells WOA! when Daddy takes him down hills and curbs.
He is also COMPLETELY fascinated with lawn mowers! He practically breaks his neck staring at people mowing as we walk by. We thought it might just be the noise he was interested in--nope! We were in Sears Hardware the last weekend and Xander had to sit on all the riders and check out all the push mowers. He wasn't interested in anything else in the store!
Oh yeah, and for all of you that have labeled him a momma's boy, you can now change that to daddy's boy. Mom = : ( Dad = : ) He only wants Daddy carrying him around and if I pick him up, he immediately smiles, leans, and grunts for Daddy. This isn't fair! Although I'm sure Baby doesn't mind not getting kneed in the head quite as much lately!Comments:Add a comment:
