Xander, Emilie and Baby #3

August 2006

  • Wed, Aug 30, 2006 12:27 PM

Remember that list of things I mentioned that we had to do before Emilie arrives? Find a new daycare (check--Xander starts on Tuesday), buy a new car (mostly check--we've located one and could be in possession of it by next week), sell our house (MOSTLY CHECK! We accepted an offer around lunch today!), and move into a new house (we're still working on that one--we think we know the one we want, we just need to start dealing). Everything is happening all at once!! Needless to say, our weekend plans may very well be changing!! : ) We'll continue to update everyone as everything continues to unfold!! YEA!!!!

Lyrics to the country song Let Them Be Little. How true!! For the overly sentimental or hormonal people, this might make ya weepy! : )

    Let Them Be Little

    (Richie McDonald/Billy Dean)

I can remember when you fit in the palm of my hand
Felt so good in it, no bigger than a minute
How it amazes me, you're changing with every blink
Faster than a flower blooms they grow up all too soon

So let them be little 'cause they're only that way for a while
Give them hope, give them praise, give them love every day
Let them cry, let them giggle, let them sleep in the middle
Oh just let them be little

I've never felt so much in one little tender touch
I live for those kisses, prayers and your wishes
Now that you're teaching me things only a child can see
Every night while we're on our knees all I ask is please

Let them be little 'cause they're only that way for a while
Give them hope, give them praise, give them love every day
Let them cry, let them giggle, let them sleep in the middle
Oh just let them be little

So innocent, a precious soul, you turn around
It's time to let them go

So let them be little 'cause they're only that way for a while
Give them hope, give them praise, give them love every day
Let them cry, let them giggle, let them sleep in the middle
Oh just let them be little

    Let them be little

We broke the news to the daycare center and Xander's teachers today that we were pulling him out. It went about as well as I expected--I got all choked up and teary-eyed. One of his teachers and his best buddy Ava are on vacation next week so he will actually only have a few more days with them. That made it even worse!! : ( They reassured us though that Xander will be staying with them anytime he was there for back-up care (and Emilie will be in Xander's old room). I'm going to be a complete mess in 2wks!

Well, we said a few months back that Emilie was going to mean some big changes for the Minch family. It looks like in 2wks that we'll be making the first change--we found Xander and Emilie's new daycare provider. She's a very nice woman on the eastern outskirts of Brownsburg named Donna Bowman. Xander will be starting there after Labor Day. With a quiver in my voice, I'll be putting in his 2wk notice tomorrow. : ( We LOVE it where he's at now, it's just doesn't make financial sense to send two kids there. With having to make it to and from work during shorter hours than we're used to, it also means Change #2 will also be coming rather quickly--a second vehicle. We still haven't quite decided what we're going to get but we've got it narrowed down to two. One and a half changes done, one and a half to go! (Unfortunately it's the big one that's left!!)

Not much to update from this appointment, other than the office staff was about to witness some domestic violence! : ) The first thing they had me do when I walked in the office was drink the nasty orange sludge drink for the glucose test (worse tasting than I remember from the first time around!) so the hour count down before the blood draw could begin . With about 20min to go, I decided to try to take a little nap. Chad kept elbowing me every 5min to wake me up. Anyone that knows me well knows that I'm not easy to wake up...or friendly if you try. The only reason the situation didn't turn ugly was because we were in public! : )

The only other thing to report was that Little Miss Thing was showing her displeasure with Dr. Lee while she tried to measure her heart rate. As soon as she pressed the probe to my belly, Emilie started kicking and thrashing! Chad just sat there and laughed. Obviously, she didn't like the cold gel or the probe's pressure (or maybe she thought it was Xander pressing on her and she was fighting back--again). Luckily for her, she has another month before she has to endure it again. After that, we'll be starting the every 2wk appointments! My how time flies!!

We had a busy weekend! Saturday we went to look at some houses in Brownsburg. Xander did really well walking through 6 different houses with a nap less half as long as normal. He didn't get mad until after we had to leave the last one--we're not sure whether he really liked that one or he was just announcing that he was done with the house hunting for the day. Regardless, we quickly found 1 or 2 that we fell in love with! Now we just have to unload this place on someone! : )

We capped the weekend off with Xander's first trip to the zoo (we know, we're terrible parents!). His favorite animal was also the first one we saw--the seal. We walked/strollered around for the next 20min clapping and barking like seals! We've been working on seal noises lately so that may be part of the reason he liked seeing one so much. We walked through half the zoo hearing several Wows and animal sounds before we stopped for hot dogs at the Dogs n Suds stand. While Daddy was in line, Xander nosed right in with a couple of kids feeding their hot dog buns to some birds. Thankfully, their kind mother shared some bun with him so he could join in their fun. After that, we headed into the Plains animals section. Let's just say we'll have to go through that section again! He didn't last very long before he was out cold! He had sooo much fun and was sooo wore out, he took nearly a 3hr nap (and woke up all smiles and giggles)!! We learned our lesson--we'll be heading back soon!

Another month, another bout of the stomach bug. That's right, we're all recovering from yet another round of the Black Death. That pretty much covers everything we did the entire weekend. We were supposed to officially start our search for a new home (in or around Brownsburg) on Sunday but had to reschedule for this coming weekend. As for the other end of that deal, we started out strong by having our first house showing 2DAYS after it was listed but the NASCAR race slowed down any house hunters this past weekend. We received great feedback (their favorite house of the 9 they looked at--just not able to buy until closer to the end of the year). Thanks to all who have helped with the repairs, upgrades, and de-cluttering process (the DeHavens, Grandpa Paul, and Uncle Chad)!! Hopefully things will pick back up soon! We'll keep you all posted on the progress!

This is the last doctor's appt update and I'm finally caught up on at least those! This was another quick appt. Our inability to yet again decide on a name was disrupted by the nurse calling me back for my appt. Before I even got on the scale, I explained the stomach bug we all suffered the weekend of my last appt and that according to our scale, I'd but on 4 of the 5.5lbs I'd lost. The nurse agreed--I lost 1lb since last time. She also noticed the sinus cold I was suffering and noted that for Dr. Lee as well.

When Dr. Lee came into the exam room, she had a guest--a nursing student was shadowing her to see if OB/GYN nursing was the field she wanted to pursue. This just made the appt feel like one from the first time around because there was explanation surrounding everything she said and did. She asked about the weight loss and suggested loading up on protein to make sure I put weight on this month (umm...nothing to worry about in that department!). She told us that next month would be the dreaded glucose test (although it really wasn't as bad as I had expected last time). I'm requesting lemon-lime this time around though!

Then she asked if we had any questions or concerns. I asked if lugging around my beautiful and nearly 30lb toddler was a problem, to which she said no but suggested carrying him more on my hip to keep the weight off my belly. Chad asked her to remind us of what meds were allowed for my sinus cold--Tylenol Sinus and Benadryl at night to help me sleep. Then I asked about the size of her head that the ultrasound tech told us--22wks 1dy vs. her 19wks 5dy age and average 20wk measurements for everything else. She reassured me that the wrong measurement was relayed. Head circumference is the one that matters and that was 20wks 1dy--right on for her age. [Gigantic sigh!!!] I also asked about her low heart rate and about the u/s tech lingering on her heart. She said she was well within the normal range and the u/s report indicated all is well. [Another sigh for worry-wart Mom!]

The appt ended with a measurement of my uterus, 20cm at nearly 24wks, which is about right since it tilts backwards. Then she checked her heartbeat and IMMEDIATELY found it beating strong (141bpm). It's such an amazing, exciting, and peaceful feeling to hear that racing little heart! : ) Since I'm so late in updating, we've only got another 2wks until we get to listen again!
