Xander, Emilie and Baby #3

November 2007

Emilie had her 12mo well baby appointment on Wednesday. Since Mommy has started her new job, we're still adjusting to Mommy and Daddy meeting up for events like this. Daddy ended up getting caught up at work as he was trying to leave but made it in just before Dr. Duck came in.

First stop was the weigh in. Miss Emilie now weighs 22lbs 13oz, which is the 77th percentile! She's our tiny baby! : ) Next stop was measurements. She was measured in at 30.5in but I think Emilie was twisting around to see what the nurse was doing and may have inflated her length. If it was correct, she's in the 89th percentile in height yet she looks so itty bitty compared to Xander! Her head measurement didn't change at all in 3mo so she's at the whopping 34th percentile.

Then Dr. Duck came in and did his quick exam. Everything checked out okay so he asked for any questions we had. We mentioned that she's made major progress since her last appointment and will stand and even walk now while holding our hands. That's HUGE for the little girl that refused to stand a few months ago! We also pointed out that she is mobile via her very own scooting maneuver but no crawling yet. But our big concern is the fact that she can't get from laying down to sitting on her own yet. Her crib is still on the highest setting because she can't sit up on her own or pull up to her knees or standing. He said he figures that she's still just being lazy but it warrants an evaluation by the First Steps physical therapists. So later today we'll be scheduling that appointment. We'll keep everyone posted on the outcome. We also mentioned some dry patches of skin and he said it was probably some mild eczema. He wrote a prescription for a steroid cream but Daddy wants to try Aquaphor or Vaseline first.

Then we asked a Xander question. Recently he started having nightmares that wake him up and send him running into our room. We either find him sleeping on the floor next to our bed or he's trying to crawl over us to get in with us. Dr. Duck's first question was what has changed at home. We mentioned Mommy's new job and the change to the morning routine and pick-up/drop-off routines. He said that was the culprit. His suggestion was to take him back to his room and put him back in his bed. Every time he does it. That means no sleep for Mommy and Daddy for awhile!

Next up was shot time. They both got flu shots and Emilie got 2 more immunizations. Xander went first and got his in his upper arm. The only crying he did was about getting up on the table for the shot. He took it like a champ! : ) Emilie did just as well for her first one but then came the tears and look of how-could-you-do-this-to-me immediately after the second one. All was better after she was picked up though. As we stood up at the appointment desk to schedule her booster flu shot for next month, Xander picked out a sticker and a lollipop. Next thing we knew, Miss Sticky Fingers grabbed a sucker of her own!

It's now been 1.5days since her shots and you'd never even know she got them! No fever, no real crankiness, just one big, pink thigh. She's such a trooper!!
